Shred hard Cuba! Here is a piece I did for benefit art show with www.amigoskate.com. Its made from an old well skated deck that has been cut into a skull shape. The proceeds will go to build a first skatepark in Cuba.
This hits home...I've been skateboarding since 12 and started skating in Poland in the 90's where there were NO FUCKING SKATEPARKS and one skateshop in Warsaw and prob like 5 in whole country. The boards were double or triple the price (basically avarage 1 month salary) of boards here and we had to do some innovative things like cut the old big boards into smaller modern shapes, take old wheels and mill them down to smaller size or to get rid of flat spots. We found bearings from Polish machinery that would fit (they were actually pretty good) and I even seen people weld trucks back together after they broke, all hardware was from other equipment ...you would skate your deck untill looked like chewed up apple core...bro, hard times.
Im glad that the relations between US and Cuba are getting better and that we can get some boards and parks build there, those kids need to shred hard, too.
